La Grande Ronde
Collection of traditional music of Quebec, By Dorothée Hogan
Forty melodies
for voice, violin, accordion, flute, mandolin, guitar, and double bass, including the chord notation, four
arrangements for piano, as well as an improvisation guide for the keyboard
. Dorothée Hogan, American by birth,
Québécoise by adoption, gives us this exceptional piece of work which offers a panorama of the different musical
genres which make up the Quebec tradition:
song
clog
galope
gigue
grondeuse (mixed rhythm)
hornpipe
march
polka
quadrille
reel
waltz
waltz-clog
Herself a talented accompanist (piano), Ms. Hogan took particular care in
noting the figured chords, which are available for all of the melodies. This collection is,
therefore, essential to a good understanding of our traditional music. It also allows one to
get a sense of the relationship between traditional dance and music.
